OUR STORY
For over 30 years, we have taken great pride in our ability to offer RV owners throughout North America with services that are both unique and desirable. Over the course of our history, those services have changed to reflect the demands of the times, but our commitment to excellence has always remained the same.
Unlike most companies in this industry that spawn from an automotive background, our roots stem from the carpet and flooring industry, where since 1976, residents of Southern California have come to know our parent company, Pat’s Discount Carpet & Flooring, Inc., as the ultimate source for the highest quality carpet and flooring options, all available at deeply discounted prices.
As our owner Pat Petruzzelli recalls, “What started with someone’s home quickly evolved into an opportunity to take care of the office they had just opened, their rental properties, second homes, and even RVs.” Our RV niché really spawned from the trust that our residential and commercial flooring customers put in us to deliver on the same great quality products and installation they had come to expect from us for so many years before.
Just as our customers had been our greatest source of growth in the residential and commercial side of our business, we realized that the same word of mouth would go a long way in the RV networks of North America. The biggest difference we recognized though was that our residential and commercial business would always be confined to the Southern California area, whereas the reach of our newly found RV business, which we named Pat’s RV Carpet & Flooring, could span the entire North American continent.
While word spread in our early years through RV customers’ travels, we continued to rely on our primary residential and commercial flooring business, taking time out of our yearly schedule to exhibit at occasional RV Shows across the West. Classified ads featuring our new venture became a common theme in Good Sam Club’s Highways Magazine and FMCA’s Family Motor Coaching. Calls began flooding in from all over and trips to Hollywood and Disneyland now included a pit stop at Pat’s RV Carpet & Flooring. Feature articles about our services filled the pages of Trailer Life and others, and then came the Internet. Our website (www.patsrvcarpet.com) became an instant hit, as keywords powered us to the top of every search engine and bloggers shared the news about their favorite source for motorhome and RV floors.
As our popularity grew, so too did the demand for the products and services we offer. With relationships being paved with key vendors like Flexsteel Furniture and Meguiars Detailing Products, we recognized the branding obstacle that our name posed. Pat’s RV Carpet & Flooring really summed us up for some time, but now, we wanted to offer our customers more than just carpet and flooring. So, in January 2009, we made a change to the name we had worked so hard to publicize, and Route 66 RV and our new website, www.getyourkicksRV.com, were born. We knew that it would be a big risk, but we also knew that it was our customers who got us here, and it was up to us to meet their call for a one-stop RV shop.
Much like how our customers from all over North America take to the open road and travel to Southern California to see us, we saw the irony in the historic highway and its significance in the journey of those travelers who made their way West down U.S. Route 66 over this past century. Just as those motorists came to know the family businesses that lined that fabled route, we were excited for our new customers to come to know our family and what makes what we do so special.
